Breakfast: Knowing Why & What to Eat

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Breakfast is important because you need to refuel your glucose levels in the morning to provide your mind and body with energy.  By eating breakfast, you increase your chances of maintaining or even losing weight.  Previous studies show that people who eat breakfast are less likely to snack on unhealthy food choices.

But it is hard to choose a breakfast that is healthy and is sure to give the right nutrients and energy to get through the day as well as aid the body on managing the weight. The best options to eat for breakfast are whole grain (quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat) mixed with a little nut milk, natural sweetener (agave nectar, dates, etc.) and some dried fruits and/or nuts.  You can also make your own granola by combining a variety of grains, nut and seeds that you like to provide you with protein, carbohydrates and fat all at the same time.

Make a smoothie by using fresh fruits and vegetables.  Also consider adding super foods like maca, spirulina, goji berries, bee pollen or raw cacao to increase the nutrient power of your smoothie.

If you have the time, you can also prepare steamed vegetables, sea vegetables or soup.  You can also eat the leftovers from last night’s meal to save you time and to prevent food waste.
