Too Much Vitamin D Side Effects

As an essential vitamin that helps maintain calcium and phosphorus levels in our body, Vitamin D helps in the proper growth of bones. It aids the absorption of calcium and helps in maintaining proper functioning of the nervous system. High intake of vitamin D helps in lowering down risks of cancers such as prostate cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer. However, too much of this is not good for our body.

It can lead to hyper-calcemia, also known as increase in the amount of calcium in your blood or hyper-vitaminosis D. Bone loss can also occur due to too much of vitamin D.

There can be calcium deposits in the body that could affect the kidney. Too much vitamin D can cause kidney stones that could lead to renal failure. It may also lead to excessive urine production.

Higher levels of calcium in the blood stream can cause heart rhythm abnormalities and heart murmurs. Too much vitamin D can make the intestines absorb too much calcium. This may lead to high levels of calcium in the blood.

Rising levels of calcium in blood can lead to calcium deposits the heart and lungs. Calcium deposits can block the entire cardiovascular system and the arteries which may lead to high blood pressure and cardiac arrest. Calcium deposits on lungs can reduce their ability to function properly. Too much vitamin D includes nausea, low appetite, loss of weight and vomiting, etc.

    I believe that you have failed to notify your readers that there is no possibility of an overdose of Vitamin D3 when the source is either from direct sunlight or tanning beds.
    It is only with supplements and foods that an overdose as described in your article is possible and to make matters worse… an “overdose” amount is different from person to person.
    Stick to natural and you can’t go wrong.
