Frozen Embryo

Singer Ricky Martin may be head over heels elated about his newly-born twins thanks to a surrogate mother but the church and other people are starting to cry about IVF.

In Vitro Fertilization or IVF has ceased to be just a medical or health issue.  Nowadays, the use of frozen embryos not only by the biological parents but by adopted parents is in the forefront of social and political discussions.

President Bush wants adoptive homes for these frozen embryos but a Fertility and Sterility published survey show that only 7% of 1,020 people with frozen embryos were willing to have their embryos adopted.  There are however more people willing to donate their embryos for research purposes.  About 54% of them will use the frozen embryos for their own reproduction purposes.

One of the top concerns among parents with frozen embryos included not only the medical but the social health of the embryo. Thus, instead of donating them to other people who might want their embryos, the respondents would rather discard them or opt for indefinite freezing or thawing.
