Even Moderate Exercise Boosts Lifespan

Wanting to live longer?

Proper diet, regular exercise, healthy lifestyle – these are some things that you need to watch out for in order for you to attain longevity.

But who has all the time in this world to meticulously keep an eye on all these health habits? I, for one, don’t have the time to keep up with all these healthiness. I don’t even like exercising – not because I’m lazy, but because I hate the feeling of sweating.

Now, for all those people like me, hear me. Hear this good news:

A new study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, which took place between 1986 and 2006, almost 4,400 Americans has found that staying moderately fit and active may help you live longer. And with the word MODERATE, that would mean brisk walking for 30 minutes at least 3x a week. Now that isn’t difficult, is it?

The study was of healthy adults, also taking into account other health factors such as obesity and diabetes. The researchers found that the 20% with the lowest fitness levels were twice as likely to die within the next nine years, as the 20% with the next-lowest fitness levels. Only 6% of the fittest men and women died during the follow-up period, compared with 25% of the least fit.

The researchers found even those participants whose exercise didn’t match up to the minimum recommended levels were still less likely to die – now we’re talking!
