Weight Loss Supplements Undergo Scrutiny

Majority of Americans are overweight.  The increase in weight of Americans is caused by a sedimentary lifestyle coupled with bad food habits.  When someone realizes that they need to shed of the extra pounds, they turn to diet and weight loss pills.  These products are easy to find in drugstores in different varieties that promise quick results in a number of days.

If you are overweight, you might have a hard time choosing the right pill that will work on you.  You have to determine everything there is to know about the weight loss product like its efficacy, safety, reactions to the body and with other medications you are taking.  You can find this non-bias information at ConsumerLab.com (CL).

CL recently published a report on weight loss products that contain conjugated linoleic acid or CLA.  CLA has been shown to slim the body by improving the body’s lean mass to body fat ratio.  CLA cannot be produced by the body but is naturally available in foods.  CLA in supplements is obtained from safflower oil that contains 80 percent CLA.  Brands like Action Labs, Bally Total Fitness, GNC, Iron-Tek, Natrol, Nature’s Sunshine, Progressive Labs, Puritan’s Pride, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Vitamin World were tested for its CLA content as well as potential contamination with lead.

Results showed that none of the supplements were contaminated with lead and majority of them contained their claimed amount of CLA.  There was one product that contained only 82% of CLA.  This means that the effect of CLA would be less than expected.
