According to a new study by the University Of Rochester School Of Medicine, a stressful job can cause people to gain weight.  Workers with more stressful jobs were bigger compared to employees with less stressful jobs.  The stressed employees had a body mass index that was about one unit heavier on average than that of their relaxed co-workers.

The subjects that were studied came from a downsized company where workers who were left behind often complained of more stress and more responsibilities.  The employees answered questions about their diets, job stress and leisure-time activities.  Short-term stress was estimated by measuring job insecurity, or the fear workers felt over the threat of…

Extra folic acid might increase your chances of developing cancer.  When we eat breakfast, we usually consume breakfast cereals, nutrition bars, bread and white rice that are fortified with folic acid, the synthetic form of the B vitamin folate.

We can easily consume too much folic acid because it is all around us.  It is slipped into cereals, bread, energy bars and supplements that one-third of us take regularly.

Although folic acid has been thought to help prevent colon cancer, research suggests that high doses of folic acid may actually promote polyp growth.  The risk experts worry about the most regarding too much consumption of foods fortified with folic acid is the…

A recent study suggests that delicious but fatty foods may be addictive.  A new study in rats suggests that high-fat, high calorie foods affect the brain in much the same way as cocaine and heroin.  When rats consume fatty foods in great quantities, it leads to compulsive eating habits that resemble drug addiction.

According to an associate professor from the Scripps Research Institute, doing drugs like cocaine and eating too much junk food both gradually overload the so-called pleasure centers in the brain.  They suggest that overeating is more than just will power; there is a part in the brain that activated and drives people to overeat at some subconscious level.
