A lot has changed in physical fitness trends for the past 10 years or more.  Before, stability balls were only found in physiotherapy clinics, and Crossfit was men who worked out in dresses.

One of the largest organizations of fitness professionals in the world, IDEA, has the most recent report of fitness programming and equipment trends, gathered from club managers and program directors:

  1. Almost 90% of clubs offer personal training. I’m thinking the 10% of club owners aren’t very smart.
  2. Not surprisingly, partner and small group training have really jumped in popularity, with people looking for more affordable options.
  3. Bootcamps and small group circuit training also increased – presumably for the same reason. In…

A friendly reminder for frappuccino lovers: think twice before you go for your next venti drink, especially if that pastry will already serve as your dinner.  You’ll end up consuming twice the amount of your usual supper.  That blended ice coffee most likely contains more calories than your meal.

It has been found by The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) that most iced coffees contain at least 200 calories – with several over 400 calories.  A venti (large) Dark Berry Mocha Frappuchino from Starbucks: 561 calories and that could already be almost half your daily allowance in just one drink if you are a woman on a calorie-controlled diet.

When you are obese, everything is bigger, just like Texas.  You would spend $1,500 more on healthcare every year and that is 41% more than an average-weight person spends each year.

All in all, 9% of all medical expenses are spent every year for obesity in the United States.  That is a whopping amount of $147 billion.  And that could even worsen as nowadays, the average American is 23 pounds overweight.  The figures are rising with the expanding body mass indices of the population.

The higher price tag extends to all areas of medical spending, including prescription drugs and Medicare.

The average American dishes out $3,400 on medical expenditures every year, but that…

The Journal of the American Medical Association has published two studies that verify what experts often claim—that the risk of heart failure is cut dramatically through a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Harvard Medical School, Boston carried out both studies.  One study (led by Dr. Luc Djousse) examined data from 20,900 men, and the other (led by Dr. John P. Forman) analysed of data from 83,882 women.

The men’s study identified a number of key positive factors:

“Maintaining a normal body weight, not smoking, regular exercise, moderate alcohol intake, consumption of breakfast cereals, and consumption of fruits and vegetables.”

10.1% risk of heart failure was found in men who managed four or more of these…

It’s safe to say that your brain activity has been altered if after eating a dozen of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, you start bouncing off the walls.

But it could also work the other way around.  You would be quite bummed out if you suddenly purge because of shame after eating the same amount of doughnuts.

There is now a new explanation for eating disorders and experts are looking into the effects of high-fat, high-sugar foods on brain receptors in relation to them.  They believe there’s a connection.

When you gorge on fatty, sugary foods, it monkeys with brain chemicals called opioids that are linked to feelings of pleasure and euphoria.  Examples of these…

One activist group has filed suit against the restaurant chain, Denny’s, because of the excessive salt content in their food.

For drunks, burnouts, and stoners looking to sober up, Denny’s is just the place, for they are open 24 hours.  These people do not realize that their comfort is actually killing them with grease and immense amount of salt.  You know what we’re talking about: bacon, sausage, syrup, fried potatoes, butter, and once again, even more salt!

Denny’s meals contain more than 5,000 milligrams of salt, claimed The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), which promotes nutrition and food safety.  They also said that people should take no more than…

Diets usually work on the first few days since you noticed you’ve shed off some weight.  Suddenly, it becomes frustrating when you notice that the numbers on your digital weighing scale go up again as each day passes by.  The truth hurts indeed, but the long-term success rate of diets is shockingly low.  Only 10% of dieters manage to maintain their new, slimmer figure.

Good news is, there’s hope.  You can actually do something about this problem and finally belong to that 10% of dieters we were just talking about.  How?

* Go slowly: The longer it takes you to lose weight, the more likely you are to maintain.

* Change your habits:…

If you’re on a diet and chocolate is something that you’ve sacrificed for a long time, then this news just might make drastic change in your life—in a positive way.  A new low-calorie type of chocolate has just been invented by lab workers at the Swiss chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut.

This new invention was some sort of a miracle as it was discovered only by accident.  Good thing the scientists involved realized that they had produced something noteworthy in the form of “Vulcan,” the name of the new chocolate, which is due to its volcanic rock texture.

Simone Cantz, a food engineer, said, “Suddenly we realized we’d produced a very special chocolate,…
