Berry Juice May Stop Artery Hardening

The effects of raspberry, strawberry and bilberry juices and green and black tea on atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, in hamsters were researched on. This study proved a significant finding especially for those suffering from this ailment.

The hamsters were put to a 12-week test wherein they received a diet that is high in fats and cholesterol along with either the juice or the tea. This daily consumption equates to 275 ml of juice or tea for a regular 70-kg person.

The results showed that after this 12-week experimentation, the mentioned berry and tea drinks inhibited aortic lipid deposition by a whopping rate of 7996%. It also reduced the activity of hepatic antioxidant enzymes.

Now, what does this signify to us human beings?

The findings only reveal that moderate consumption of berry juices and green and black teas help prevent the common precursor of major heart disease, atherosclerosis.
